We say:
The Traxxas Slash 4x4 is one of the most popular short course trucks on the market and for good reasons. This truck is strong rugged, easy to use and maintain and gives a great introduction to the hobby for people at all levels of ability. The Slash looks great, handles really well and with the 4x4 shaft driven chassis offers a stable and predictable platform with good acceleration and road holding.
The Ultimate addition simply adds to this with the inclusion of many Traxxas option parts that allow you to race your truck at a competitive level right out the box. Particular attention has been paid to the suspension components to improve the ride and handling of the car. Aluminium upgrade to the steering blocks and C Hubs remove any slop compared to the plastic components making for more predictable handling. The inclusion of the big bore shocks provide that extra damping control needed on rougher terrain.
These option parts add up to make an altogether better handling truck, but also a faster one on track too. The Slash 4x4 drives remarkably well the centre of gravity is actually lower than it seems and the truck can be made to slide progressively and controllably on all but the grippiest of surfaces. The inclusion of the sway bar kit means you have full adjustability of the suspension. This truck can be tuned to handle anything from tight grippy surface or high speed road running to bumpy dirt tracks with the biggest of bumps.
What makes short course racing so much fun is the ability to run wheel to wheel with other cars and keep going. These trucks just bounce off each other and keep on going and that makes for great close racing. What really impressed me with the Slash 4x4 is the strength of the truck, it can take so much abuse and keep going. Traxxas take some flack from the more serious side of the hobby for making kits that are a bit plasticy with cheaper materials. Sometimes this is valid but its not the case with the Slash 4x4, plastic flexes and gives meaning it can absorb a lot of shock without breaking. The Slash 4x4 is incredibly strong where it needs to be with enough built in flex to take some serious abuse.
The Traxxas Slash 4x4 Ultimate edition is a great short course truck and comes highly recommended. You won’t be disappointed if you chose to buy this truck. If you are purely buying one to bash you might not need to spend the extra on the Ultimate. A standard Slash 4x4 is a great truck and you can still upgrade components along the way. The Ultimate edition just gives you a truck that is race ready out the box. As always the last thing needed with a good brushless model is a few decent LiPo packs to truly unleash the full potential of the vehilce.
