Traxxas E-Revo Brushless Edition tuning and hop up guide.

The E-Revo is one of the hottest models out there right now and proving incredibly popular.  Strong and super fast out the box this truck won’t disappoint.  Of course that doesn’t mean you won’t want to get inside the greasy bits and start hopping-up your new truck.  Below we list some of the most popular and worthwhile upgrades for the E-Revo brushless edition and look at how you might want to tune your truck for maximum performance on the race track...
Traxxas Steel CV Centre / Drive shafts.

The transmission of the E-Revo has been upgraded from the original brushed version to cope with the increased torque of the Mamba system.  For the most part the transmission and shafts are strong enough.  But if you intend to run your truck on high-grip surfaces with 6S LiPo’s you may want to consider the up-rated option centre and drive shaft from Traxxas.

These steel shafts are stronger than the stock parts and look the part to boot.  Installing these will require a degree of competence at taking a model apart, but shouldn’t prove too difficult with the exceptional support from Traxxas.  This is probably not an essential upgrade but something worth considering once you have worn out or broken your stock components.
Traxxas Centre Differential

The centre diff from Traxxas is essential if you want to start racing your E-Revo or just tame the wheelies on full throttle.  The centre diff smooths out the power delivery allowing you to deploy more power earlier in the corner.

The centre diff fits directly in the gearbox of your truck and comes sealed with 100k wt silicone fluid inside.  Fitting this part will require the disassembly of your trucks transmission.

The action of the centre diff can be tuned using different viscosity of silicone oils to suite the track conditions on any given day.
Shocks and Springs

The easiest way to begin tuning your truck to handle how you want it is to correctly set up the damping for your running conditions.  Traxxas offer a full range of springs and oils to fully tune your truck.

The optional GTR springs from Traxxas come anodized in either red or blue and look absolutely awesome, as well as improving the ride of your truck. The GTR design features a machined, threaded aluminum body with an oversized spring collar for easy and precise preload adjustments. The spring perches are vented to help prevent dirt from packing around the X-ring seals, and hard-chrome shafts resist stiction for smooth action and consistent performance. Inside the shock, volume-compensating bladders are used to ensure perfect damping throughout the travel range.

You can tune your shocks further by fitting different spring rates and oils.  Traxxas trucks come stock with a fairly soft set-up and many owners will tune their truck a little stiffer to give a little more handling feel.

To get the most from your truck the aftermarket aluminium push-rods make a worthwhile addition.  These again not only look the part but reduce the un-sprung mass of your suspension and ensure the best operation of your shocks.
RPM aftermarket components

The aftermarket for Traxxas kits is always huge and now the E-Revo has been on the scene for some time now the market is filling up with upgraded parts.

Some of the most popular and worthwhile upgrades come from RPM and the first to consider on your E-Revo are the up-rated A arms.  The stock components are prone to breaking after a heavy or nasty landing.  This is all but eliminated with the RPM arms as they are stronger yet also no heavier than the stock arms.  Handling is also improved as these arms offer less flex than stock.  These arms are easy to fit and also look totally great on your truck.

Of course the sky is the limit once you go down the sometimes dangerous path of serial hopping-up.  Skid plates and bumpers, light kits and complete chassis are available to transform your E-Revo.  But as a general rule of thumb its only worth spending your cash if it makes your model go faster or stronger.
The E-Revo Brushless Racer

The E-Revo is really aimed at being a high-end basher, but that doesn’t mean this truck can’t race.  The excellent chassis design and low centre of gravity mean the foundations are in place to make a highly competent off-road racing truck.  With very few modifications your truck can be transformed from stock into a racer.  Here we take a quick look at the last few mods needed.

The first step in upgrading your E-Revo to race is to sort out the suspension and damping.  Most of the mods and parts needed are mentioned above on this page.  Additionally to the parts listed the sway bar kit is worth considering to improve damping and control body roll when cornering.

To further improve the handling of your truck aftermarket arms are available that allow you to lengthen the wheelbase and widen the track of your truck.  You will also need to use the longer drive shafts from the Summit truck to run this modification.

The last and most important mod is to fit some racing tyres to maximise the grip of your E-Revo racing machine.

Its now time to tune your truck, putting the effort into setting up your truck is where the biggest gains can be made.  You’ll want to run your truck as low and stiff as possible while maintaining good damping control over the rough stuff to put the power down.
