Losi Speed T Brushless Stadium Truck Review

The Speed T is Losi’s take on the 1/10th brushless stadium scene and they have taken the view that most of us stick to running on roads and car parks with our trucks.  As such they have designed the Speed T to be a low slung sleek speed machine that will stay stable and handle the curves at extreme high speed.  This comes at the expense of off-road bashing ability but is that to big a price to pay for one of the coolest looking trucks on the market? Losi Speed T - 1/10th Brushless Stadium Truck Review

1/10-SCALE HIGH SPEED BRUSHLESS ELECTRIC TRUCK

At a Glance

Bring the heat up and down your street with Losi’s fastest electric RTR ever, the Speed-T. Based on a proven, durable chassis design and ultimately an agile suspension setup, the Speed-T has the foundation to handle serious acceleration unlike any other RC truck. Losi’s revolutionary brushless power system, featuring an Xcelorin programmable electronic speed control and potent brushless motor, propels the Speed-T to top speeds in excess of 65mph. Road Weapon low profile tires mounted on Losi SpokeZ 320 Series Chrome wheels and a lowered chassis hug the ground for high-speed handling, and an installed wheelie bar keeps the wheels down to put the power to the ground. The included Losi MTX Pro Radio System with Spektrum™ 2.4GHz DSM® technology offers complete control without interference. The custom painted, low-profile aerodynamic body is designed with speed and downforce in mind for less aerodynamic drag and more traction.

More on the Brushless Power System:
The Speed-T features Losi’s revolutionary brushless power system, allowing it to achieve speeds in excess of 65mph. The fully programmable, high-output electronic speed control can handle traditional NiCd, NiMH or LiPo battery packs, and offers precise throttle and braking control. The brushless motor requires virtually no maintenance, while offering unmatched efficiency and speed. Additionally, the ESC offers tons of programming options, including adjustable throttle limits, selectable beginner and expert user profiles and much more using the Quick Programming Card.

All of this combined makes the Speed-T the only choice for serious drivers in need of serious speed.

Our verdict

The Speed T from Losi is another stadium truck that comes ready to reach high speeds on LiPo batteries out of the box.  The angle that Losi have taken with this truck is the assumption that these trucks will be used for high speed on-road running more than as an off-road basher.  As long as this is what you plan for your truck you won’t be disappointed, in fact the Losi is probably the best of the current kits on the market.   The truck comes at a great price fully loaded with what we have all come to expect from a rtr now.  That being a 2.4ghz radio in the box, a powerful motor and ready to be hooked up to the most powerful LiPo batteries.

So how does it run?  Well the low stance, on-road tyres and race derived suspension lay out mean the Speed T handles incredibly well on the asphalt.  High speed handling is really good, not far off a racing buggy, turning precisely and gripping well.  The included wheelie bar is a nice addition that means you can pull some nice tricks and also not flip your truck every time you touch the throttle.
Its off-road that the Speed T starts to lose out to its rivals.  Some mild off-road bashing is fine, don’t expect the stock tyres to bite on the loose stuff but these can easily be swapped out for some nobblies!  What lets the truck down is the locked up differential, this will burn out quickly when you start to spin the wheels up on the rough stuff.  This is easily overcome by installing the option diff balls and shouldn’t been seen as a big negative.  However for the novice this is something to be aware of and to take into consideration when purchasing your kit.

Our verdict on the Losi Speed T

Well the diff issue may be the deciding factor for some people, but it is really not a big headache to install the diff balls if you want to go off-road.  With this truck like so many it comes down to what you want to do with it.  If you see yourself purely racing your friends on the street or car parks then the ultra high speeds and surefooted on-road handling, not to mention awesome sleek looks, should be enough to convince you that the Speed T is for you.  If you want to bash, jump and hit the rough stuff then you may want to consider its rivals...

...The Traxxas Rustler VXL Vs HPI E-Firestorm Flux Vs Losi Speed T decision is one that gets thrown around most RC forums at some point, but with all these trucks it really comes down to personal choice and most importantly what you want to do with your truck.   Our quick view, for on-road only the Speed T, for mostly off-road the E-Firestorm Flux.
