XO-? What is coming next in the Traxxas XO range of cars?
Traxxas set the RC world alight with the release of the XO-1 on road racer, the first
genuine RTR to hit 100mph it brought great exposure to Traxxas from all corners of
the media and not just within the usual circle of RC magazines and websites. With
Traxxas vehicles being mostly off roaders it’s understandable that not all of the
feedback from the usual Traxxas fanbase was warm. Although lot of the criticism lacks
the understanding that the XO-1 was designed to push into new markets and create
more exposure for the company, you can’t help feel that Traxxas won’t leave it unaddressed
for long.
The very name XO-1 does suggest that there plenty of room to expand the XO range.
So based purely on a mix of internet rumour, speculation and a bit of wishful thinking
I thought I would take a look at some of the future possibilities of the XO range.

Short Course? The XO-1 transmission is an evolution of the 4WD shaft driven system
found on the Slash Short Course truck with upgraded components and improved designs
to the differentials. With the growing popularity of SC trucks from all manufactures
and the Traxxas Slash range being one of its most popular selling trucks you can
easily see how an ultimate SC truck would have big appeal. You won’t have the same
headline grabbing 100mph figures with an SC truck but a bigger meaner, stronger and
faster SC truck would sell in droves to the existing Traxxas demographic.
Ultimate E-Revo? This one seems to be building momentum around the web the E-Revo
is so popular because it can be all things to all men. With little effort have a
vehicle that can be transformed from a high clearance off road monster truck that
can handle the biggest jumps, to a lowered on road street racer. OK it’s no carbon
fibre 1/10th touring car but it can out handle any other monster truck out there
by simply lowering the suspension, stiffening things up and fitting some street tyres
if you really want to max things out.
The E-Revo is not cheap but most owners have thrown the price of an XO-1 at theirs
in upgrades and extra LiPo packs. An ultimate XO version in true 1/8th or 1/7th
scale would fly off the shelves; the 100mph top speed would still be attainable with
the added benefit of being able to handle the harshest of off-road terrain.
A Traxxas Baja – Speculating here at best, but the HPI Baja is a big seller and more
and more frequently you are seeing brushless versions emerge on the custom scene.
Kits are even available commercially now to convert your petrol Baja into a brushless
runner. The XO range gives Traxxas an opening into what is a new corner of the market
for them. A large scale brushless Baja style buggy would certainly fit the business
model of the XO range. It would be nice to see this model made to full racing spec
with a high-tech chassis and full suspension adjustability and not just as a top-end
basher. The 1/5th scale has a large existing fan base; this direction seems a very
plausible one to me if Traxxas decide to expand the XO range into all corners of
the market.
So just three of many possible options there that I would all love to see come from
Traxxas, let’s just hope they build them!
… now what about an XO boat?
