Traxxas E Revo Vs E Maxx Vs HPI Savage Flux... What to buy?

I am currently looking to buy my next RC car and find myself going through the process of agonisingly pouring over spec sheets, reading forums and watching videos on Youtube.  The model in question is a monster truck for bashing, the choices narrowed down to the E-Maxx, E-Revo, and Savage Flux.  They all run the Castle Monster Max brushless system capable of hitting over 60mph with 6S LiPo’s and the right gearing.  Also all now ship with a 2.4ghz system for interference and hassle free running.

I want something that can handle a few jumps and bumps but also to race on the street, it needs to be strong and I don’t want to be throwing money at it on replacement parts.

For these reasons the E-Maxx is out, I’ve personally had no issues when using a Maxx but there are just too many horror stories out there on the net to put me off.  Every forum with an E-Maxx thread points towards weaknesses in the suspension and shock towers that require aftermarket parts.  This shouldn’t necessarily put you off as RPM make some awesome bits for the Maxx that put things right quickly.  As a new buy I don’t want to be getting in parts right away so may look to a second hand Maxx as a hop-up project in the future.

So the E-Revo, where to start? This seems to be just about the most popular truck on the market right now.  The combination of off-road ability and on road stability is hard to resist.  It looks great and goes like heck, but is it strong enough to cope with some serious jumping.  Not to the level of the Flux but then it is way more stable on road…

…The Savage Flux then, this model has the same super strong metal chassis of its Nitro brothers and Sisters combined with the Mamba brushless system.  I am in no doubt this is the strongest truck on the market.  For serious jumping and bashing this truck will hold up better than the E-Revo.  On the road however the Flux is prone to roll-overs at high speed and is compromised by the soft long suspension system in the corners.

The decision needs to be made purely on the intended use of the truck as separating these two is actually a lot harder than it seems.  Its very tempting to go for the Savage Flux the extra scope to really have some fun with huge jumps off road is hard to resist...

... But, I think it will be the Traxxas, the E-Revo is such a cool looking kit and just sways it for me with the extra on road stability for some really high speed running.
